Acclaimed animator and director Genndy Tartakovsky, the creative force behind iconic series like Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack, and Primal, as well as the blockbuster Hotel Transylvania franchise, has finally kicked off production on his long-gestating passion project: an R-rated adult animated comedy titled Fixed.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tartakovsky shared exciting details about the film, describing it as "the rated-R 2D animated movie about a dog who finds out he’s gonna get neutered in the morning, and what does he do with his next 24 hours?"
Tartakovsky has been trying to get this project off the ground for over 12 years, and it's now in active production under Sony Pictures Animation – the studio behind his successful Hotel Transylvania films and the raunchy hit Sausage Party.
"It's gonna look really good, and it's got heart, but then it's got the super raunch," Tartakovsky enthused. "I've never really seen anything like it."
The story follows an average dog who, upon learning of his impending neutering, embarks on one final epic adventure with his pack of buddies. Drawing inspiration from classic character-driven comedies, the film promises a mix of heartfelt moments and over-the-top adult humor, all rendered in beautiful traditional 2D animation – a rarity in today's CG-dominated landscape.
Alongside Fixed, Tartakovsky is also developing other projects, including the PG-13 rated Black Knight at Sony Pictures Animation.
No release date has been announced for Fixed, and casting details are yet to be revealed as production ramps up.
This marks Tartakovsky's bold step into fully adult-oriented feature animation, building on his recent mature works like the final season of Samurai Jack on Adult Swim and the visceral Primal.
