Wonder Street Acquires Rights to Beloved Easter Candy for Animated Feature – Peeps Movie in Development

In a delightful post-Easter surprise that's sure to sweeten family movie nights, production company Wonder Street – fresh off the critical acclaim of their drama The Mauritanian – has secured film and TV rights to the iconic marshmallow treat Peeps. The company, led by producers Christine and Mark Holder, is developing an animated feature centered on the colorful chicks and bunnies that have hopped into American hearts for nearly seven decades.

Billed as a vibrant adventure in the vein of Trolls meets The Smurfs, the untitled project follows a ragtag group of Peeps characters embarking on an epic cross-country journey to attend Peepsfest, the annual real-life brand celebration held in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania – home of Peeps manufacturer Just Born Inc.

Penning the script and co-producing is emerging writer David Goldblum (Helix, Say Goodnight), marking his exciting entry into family animation. Goldblum, a UCLA MFA graduate with multiple screenwriting fellowships and credits including book adaptations and a project executive produced by Meryl Streep, brings his storytelling prowess to this sugary world.

"Just Born is thrilled to see Peeps come to life on the big screen," said Keith Domalewski, Director of Marketing & Consumer Engagement at Just Born. "Peeps Chicks and Bunnies have been ingrained in American pop culture for nearly seven decades due to their instantly recognizable shapes and fan-favorite marshmallow taste. We hope the new Peeps film spreads sweetness to families across the country and provides inspiration for fans to express their 'Peepsonality' in new ways."

With Just Born producing over two billion Peeps annually and an ever-expanding line of merchandise, the brand's leap to cinema feels like a natural – and long-overdue – evolution. Wonder Street's shift from the intense legal thriller The Mauritanian (which earned Golden Globe wins and nominations, including for Jodie Foster) to this lighthearted animated tale showcases their versatile slate.

No director or voice cast has been announced yet, but with development underway, this could be the next big family franchise. Stay tuned – the Peeps are just getting started!
